In August, the government implemented a 40 percent duty on the export of all onion varieties as a measure to boost domestic availability and control price inflation in the local market.
However, the government has now decided to exempt the export of ‘Bangalore Rose’ onions from this duty, subject to specific conditions.
The Finance Ministry has issued a notification stating that exporters can be exempted from export duty on Bangalore Rose onions if they provide a certificate from the state horticulture commissioner. This certificate should confirm the item’s identity and quantity of Bangalore Rose onions intended for export.
This move aims to facilitate the export of Bangalore Rose onions while still regulating the export of other onion varieties through the existing duty.
