Compound archers once again took the spotlight at the Asian Championships in Bangkok, securing three gold, one silver, and three bronze medals for India. The standout performance came from teenager Parneet Kaur, who claimed the individual crown by defeating ace Indian compound archer Jyothi Surekha Vennam in a thrilling all-Indian final. Despite trailing by two points at the halfway mark, Parneet leveled the score 145-145, forcing a tie-breaker that she won 8-9, securing her maiden individual gold at the international level.
In addition to Parneet’s victory, the Indian compound mixed team of Aditi Swami and Priyansh secured a second gold by defeating Thailand 156-151 in the final. The compound women’s team, comprising Jyothi, Parneet, and Aditi, replicated their success from the Asian Games, winning the title with a 234-233 victory over Chinese Taipei.
The only bronze from the recurve section came from the women’s team. The recurve archers faced a challenging competition, with none of them progressing beyond the quarterfinals. Despite a consistent performance, Dhiraj Bommadevara and Tarundeep Rai were eliminated, while Bhajan Kaur and Tisha Punia could not advance beyond the pre-quarterfinals. The recurve section witnessed a tough contest, highlighting the dominance of India’s compound archers in this championship.
