Earlier today, an FIR was lodged by the Delhi Police against unidentified individuals in connection with a deepfake video case involving actor Rashmika Mandanna. The video, widely circulated on social media, prompted the Delhi Commission for Women to issue a notice to the city police, urging action against the perpetrators.
The FIR has been registered under sections 465 (punishment for forgery) and 469 (forgery for the purpose of harming reputation) of the Indian Penal Code, along with sections 66C and 66E of the Information Technology Act. The Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations Unit of the Delhi Police’s Special Cell is leading the investigation, with dedicated teams already initiated.
Earlier in the day, the Delhi Commission for Women took suo-moto cognizance of media reports regarding the deepfake video of Rashmika Mandanna circulating widely on various social media platforms. The actress herself expressed concerns about the video, stating that her picture had been illegally morphed.
The Commission emphasized the seriousness of the case, highlighting that no arrests had been made thus far. In response, they requested a copy of the FIR along with details of the accused by November 17.
“The Commission has learned that till date no arrests have been made in the case. This is a very serious matter. In view of the above, please provide a copy of the FIR registered in the matter, details of the accused arrested in the matter and detailed action taken report in the matter,” stated the DCW’s communication.
“Considering the gravity of the matter, please provide the sought information to the Commission by November 17,” it added.
