The contract for transforming Dharavi, one of Asia’s largest slums, into a modern city hub has been secured by the Adani Group. Genesys International, a Mumbai-based digital mapping firm, has been awarded the contract to implement its digital twin mapping technology for the Dharavi redevelopment initiative. The contract is valued at ₹22 crore, excluding GST, and is expected to be completed within nine months. The Adani Group had previously won the contract to revitalize Dharavi earlier in the year.
Genesys International’s chairman and managing director, Sajid Malik, emphasized the company’s commitment to pushing boundaries in the mapping space. He mentioned that the project, known for its unparalleled complexity, has garnered attention from the entire geospatial community.
The Dharavi redevelopment project led by the Adani Group has faced opposition, with claims of favorable treatment by the Eknath Shinde government. In response, the Adani Group asserted that the tender conditions for the project were finalized during the previous Maha Vikas Aghadi government’s tenure, consisting of Shiv Sena, Congress, and NCP. They emphasized that the project was awarded through a fair, open, and internationally competitive bidding process, and the tender conditions remained unchanged for the awardee post the tendering process. The Adani Group refuted allegations of receiving special benefits and emphasized the transparency of the awarding process.
