Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, added another jewel to his glittering crown on Sunday as he became the first male player to play 150 T20 Internationals. Rohit achieved this milestone during the second T20 match against Afghanistan at the Holkar Cricket Stadium, where India secured a victory by six wickets. This match marked Rohit’s return to India’s T20I setup after the conclusion of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022. In the first T20I against Afghanistan in Mohali, India emerged victorious by six wickets.
During the match, Rohit Sharma became the first player to achieve the milestone of winning 100 T20 Internationals. In terms of the shortest format’s performances, the Indian opener now stands out, surpassing Ireland’s Paul Stirling, who has played 134 matches in his career. Stirling’s Irish counterpart, George Dockrell, holds the third position with 128 matches played. Rohit Sharma, recognized for scoring the most runs in T20 cricket, has amassed 3853 runs at an impressive strike rate of around 140 in approximately 149 matches. He has also registered four centuries in T20 Internationals, sharing the feat with Glenn Maxwell and Suryakumar Yadav.
In the ongoing series against Afghanistan, Rohit Sharma chose to field first after winning the toss in the second T20I, marking the second encounter of the three-match series. India secured a 6-wicket victory in the first match of the series against Afghanistan. Star batsman Virat Kohli, returning to India’s playing eleven for the second T20I in Indore, came back after missing the opening match for personal reasons.
