The political scene in Punjab has intensified with the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Various political parties in different states are announcing the names of their candidates. Amidst this, Parneet Kaur, the wife of former CM Captain Amarinder Singh and a Member of Parliament from Patiala, has joined the BJP today. It is believed that the BJP may field her from the Patiala seat in the Lok Sabha elections.
First Time in 30 Years, BJP Candidate to Contest Elections Here
Parneet Kaur has been a Congress MP from the Patiala seat in Punjab four times. She could be given the Patiala seat by the BJP because she has been contesting elections from the Patiala Lok Sabha seat for the past 25 years. Additionally, this will be the first time in 30 years that a BJP candidate will contest elections from this seat.
Congress Had Suspended Her
It is noteworthy that the Congress had suspended Parneet on February 3, 2023, over allegations of anti-party activities. However, since she did not lose her membership of the Lok Sabha, Parneet did not resign from the party. Allegations were made against Parneet that she was consistently attending BJP’s programs. Moreover, she did not participate in Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra either.
