Tremors were experienced in various parts of northern India, including Chandigarh and Jaipur. Authorities in Jaipur, the pink city, reported no information on any damages or losses at this time.
The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) confirmed a series of earthquakes in Nepal, with the most powerful registering a magnitude of 6.2. These seismic activities were also felt in northern Indian regions, including Delhi-NCR.
According to an NCS official, the initial earthquake, with a magnitude of 4.6, occurred in western Nepal at a depth of 10 kilometers around 2:25 pm. Subsequently, a stronger tremor measuring 6.2 on the magnitude scale was recorded at 2:51 pm.
Following the initial seismic events, two more earthquakes, measuring 3.6 and 3.1 in magnitude, respectively, struck the same area at depths of 15 km and 10 km at 3:06 pm and 3:19 pm.
Following the second earthquake, residents in Delhi and the National Capital Region reported significant tremors, leading to the evacuation of offices and high-rise residential buildings. The Delhi Police issued an appeal, urging people to stay calm and avoid panicking.
“We hope you all are safe. Please exit your buildings and find a safe location, but do not use elevators! For any emergency assistance, dial 112,” read their message on social media.
