New Delhi: A quarrel between a husband and wife escalated to the point where the plane had to be brought down. This shocking incident unfolded when a Lufthansa flight, traveling from Munich to Bangkok on Wednesday, had an emergency landing in Delhi due to a dispute between a German man and his Thai wife. The situation perplexed airline staff, leaving them unsure of how to handle the situation. Eventually, the husband was disembarked in Delhi, while his wife continued her journey to Bangkok on the same Lufthansa flight. No police complaint was filed against the disruptive passenger, and he later apologized to security agencies. Consequently, he also boarded a flight to Bangkok with an Indian airline a few hours later.
An official explained that the wife initially complained to the pilot about her husband’s behavior, claiming that he was threatening her. According to sources, the 53-year-old German passenger attempted to light a blanket with a lighter, threw food, yelled at his wife, and ignored the instructions of the flight crew. Ultimately, the pilot changed the flight route, leading to an unscheduled landing in Delhi, where CISF personnel disembarked him.
Upon investigation, it was revealed that the couple had a heated argument over some issue, and the husband started yelling about it, leading to the commotion. The wife was traveling on a separate PNR ticket and wanted to continue her journey to Bangkok. The woman boarded the Lufthansa flight, while the airline has banned the man involved in the altercation from all group flights with immediate effect.
This is not the first time that an international flight to India had to divert its route due to marital discord. In November 2017, a non-stop Doha-Bali flight of Qatar Airways had to land in Chennai because a wife unlocked her husband’s phone using his fingerprint while he was asleep and discovered something alarming. A fierce fight erupted between them, leading to the emergency landing of the plane.
