Afghanistan’s star player, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, has had to return home amid the Big Bash League. The reason behind this significant development has now come to light.
Mujeeb Ur Rahman, the star player from Afghanistan, has been ousted from the Big Bash League, leading to his return home. He plays for the Melbourne Renegades in the BBL and was not available for selection in the match against the Melbourne Stars. His team had to face an 8-wicket defeat in this match. Mujeeb has exited the Big Bash League for a significant reason.
Mujeeb Exits BBL: The Afghanistan Cricket Board had halted the central contract of Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Fazal Farooqi, and Nawin Ul Haq. These players had expressed their desire to step outside the central contract. Besides not being included in the central contract, the board also decided not to grant a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to these players for the next two years. This decision eliminated the possibility of these players participating in other leagues. Due to the absence of an NOC, Mujeeb had to exit the Big Bash League.
Chance Against India: Even after the decision of the Afghanistan Cricket Board, Mujeeb played two matches for the Melbourne Renegades. Following the board’s decision, Nawin Ul Haq and Fazal Haq Farooqi expressed their desire to play for the country. Consequently, they got an opportunity to participate in the T20 series against the UAE. Mujeeb did not get a chance in this series. However, he might have a chance in the series against India.
Afghanistan Cricket Board Denies NOC: The International Cricket Council (ICC) had clarified in April 2022 that any player wanting to play in foreign leagues would need an NOC. This does not imply whether the player has a contract with the board or has retired from the game. The Afghanistan Cricket Board has decided not to grant NOC to Mujeeb, Fazal, and Nawin for 24 months. As a result, they are not eligible to play in foreign leagues. Mujeeb has achieved remarkable statistics for Afghanistan, securing 1 wicket in 1 Test, 101 wickets in 75 ODIs, and 56 wickets in 43 T20 Internationals.
