In his endorsement of Rahul Gandhi, Kamal Nath highlighted the enthusiasm among party workers to welcome him, citing Gandhi’s active involvement in nationwide demonstrations against injustice.
Amid speculation about his potential defection to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Kamal Nath, the former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh and a stalwart of the Congress party, urged the people of the state and party supporters to join Rahul Gandhi’s ongoing Bharat Jodo Nyaya Yatra to combat injustice and oppression.
Nath emphasized Gandhi’s proactive stance against injustice, oppression, and exploitation, which has resonated with party workers nationwide. He dispelled rumors of his own move to the BJP and pledged to conclude the Bharat Jodo Nyaya Yatra alongside Gandhi.
“These remarks dispel any speculation about my intention to join the BJP. Meanwhile, several leaders from my stronghold district of Chhindwara in MP recently joined the BJP,” Nath stated, addressing the ongoing conjecture regarding his and his son’s political allegiance.
He affirmed Congress General Secretary Jitendra Singh’s earlier assertion that he and his son Nakul Nath would participate in the Congress party’s Bharat Jodo Nyaya Yatra when it reaches Madhya Pradesh.
The Bharat Jodo Nyaya Yatra, spearheaded by Rahul Gandhi, marks the second edition of the Bharat Jodo Yatra, commencing from Manipur on January 14 and concluding in Mumbai on March 20. The initial ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ occurred from Kanyakumari to Kashmir in 2022-23.
Furthermore, Nath dismissed allegations of him switching sides, attributing such rumors to the BJP and the media. Reports suggested Nath’s discontent over not securing a Rajya Sabha seat and purported differences with Rahul Gandhi following the Congress party’s loss in the state assembly elections last year.
In the 2023 Madhya Pradesh elections, the BJP secured a landslide victory, clinching 163 out of 230 assembly seats, while the Congress managed to secure only 66 seats. Subsequently, Nath was replaced as the Chief of the Madhya Pradesh unit of the Congress party.
