State Bureau, Jammu. In preparation for the successful conduct of the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 in Jammu and Kashmir, a team led by Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar arrived in Srinagar on Monday for a three-day visit to assess the preparations.
The team from the Election Commission will hold meetings with senior officials of the state administration regarding election preparedness. Additionally, the team will meet with representatives of political parties in Jammu and Srinagar to gather information about their expectations and suggestions regarding the organization of the Lok Sabha Elections.
The team includes the Chief Election Commissioner and nine members of the commission. Furthermore, the Election Commission team will also hold a meeting with senior officers of the Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday to ensure the safety of the elections. Afterward, the team will visit Jammu on Wednesday to gauge the political atmosphere by discussing election-related issues with representatives of various political parties in the region.
Meetings with administration officials are also possible. The administration will provide information to the Election Commission about the impartial and secure conduct of Lok Sabha Elections in the region based on the actions taken on the ground so far. In this regard, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo has already held meetings with senior officials of the civil and police administration.
The demand for conducting Assembly Elections will also be raised in Jammu and Kashmir at this time. It is certain that the issue of conducting Assembly Elections will be raised either alongside the Lok Sabha Elections in meetings with the Election Commission team or shortly after. Leaders like Farooq Abdullah and Azad have already made this demand. Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has reiterated several times that he is ready to conduct Assembly Elections at any time.
