The second season of the Game of Thrones spin-off, House of the Dragon, is set to debut on HBO in the “early summer” of 2024, as announced by HBO chief Casey Bloys at a press event in New York. During this event, the first trailer for the show’s sophomore season was also unveiled, according to reports from Variety, an entertainment news outlet.
House of the Dragon, which initially premiered on HBO in August 2022, is adapted from George R. R. Martin’s book titled “Fire & Blood.” This book delves into the history of House Targaryen, set 300 years prior to the events chronicled in the Game of Thrones series, which concluded its eight-season run in 2019.
Reports indicate that the filming for the second season commenced at Warner Bros.’ Leavesden Studios on April 11, unaffected by the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike that began on May 2 and persisted until September 27. It also remained unaffected by the ongoing actors’ strike conducted by the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA).
During the event, Bloys further disclosed that production for the second season of another popular series, “The Last of Us,” will commence in early 2024. This show stars Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey and is based on the well-received video game of the same title. Bloys attributed the delay in production to the dual strikes by the Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA.
Set two decades after the collapse of modern civilization, “The Last of Us” follows the journey of Joel (played by Pascal), a seasoned survivor who is hired to smuggle 14-year-old Ellie (portrayed by Ramsey) out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What begins as a small task rapidly transforms into a grueling and poignant expedition, with both characters relying on each other for their survival.
The show, created by Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin, also features notable cast members such as Gabriel Luna, Anna Torv, Nico Parker, Murray Bartlett, Nick Offerman, Melanie Lynskey, Storm Reid, and Merle Dandridge.
