In a tragic hit-and-run incident in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, a speeding car struck three young men on Sunday, resulting in the death of two and leaving the third in critical condition, according to police reports.
CCTV footage capturing the horrifying event has surfaced on social media, depicting the three individuals walking along the roadside before being struck by the speeding vehicle from behind. The impact of the collision sent them airborne. The victims have been identified as Moeen, Akil Ahmed, and Tahir.
While Moeen and Akil Ahmed succumbed to their injuries, Tahir remains in critical condition, as per India Today. The police have filed a case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including sections 124, 125, 279, 304, 337, and 338. Jitendra Kumar Singh, a police official, mentioned that neither the car manufacturer nor the driver has been identified yet, and investigations are ongoing.
The incident has sparked outrage on social media platforms, with users demanding the apprehension of the perpetrators. Some users speculate that the incident might have been deliberate.
“This seems intentional, with a sudden lane change,” commented one user.
“Authorities have failed miserably with the encroachment on footpaths and parking on lanes,” criticized another.
“Carelessness such as walking in the middle of the road or not facing traffic while walking can be perilous, especially when encroaching onto drivable roads,” cautioned a third user.
“Sadly, the CCTV footage doesn’t capture the entire event, leaving us to speculate. It’s a tragic outcome, highlighting the disparities between the driver and the owner,” lamented a fourth user.
