Yashasvi Jaiswal showcased his prowess as an opener in India’s second T20I against Australia at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday. Facing the Australian bowlers, the left-handed batsman delivered a stellar performance, scoring 53 runs in 25 balls and providing India with an outstanding start after being invited to bat first by Australia. Jaiswal’s aggressive innings set a record for the most runs by an Indian batter in the powerplay of a T20I game.
Partnering with Ishan Kishan, Jaiswal played a pivotal role in India’s batting dominance, leading to a convincing 44-run victory over Australia in the second T20I. Alongside Jaiswal, Kishan contributed with a well-played 52 off 32 deliveries, helping India reach a formidable total of 235 for 4.
Spinner Ravi Bishnoi and fast bowler Prasidh Krishna played crucial roles, taking three wickets each as India restricted Australia to 191-9, securing a 2-0 lead in the five-match series.
Jaiswal’s impactful innings laid the foundation for India’s substantial total, complemented by significant contributions from opening partner Ruturaj Gaikwad (58) and Rinku Singh’s unbeaten 31 off nine balls.
India’s captain, Suryakumar Yadav, praised the team’s performance, stating, “The boys are not putting too much pressure on me. They are taking onus. I told them (players) before, be prepared to bat first. There was a lot of dew. We talked to defend it later.”
Jaiswal earned the Man of the Match title and expressed his satisfaction, saying, “It was really special for me. I was trying to play all my shots, be fearless, and stick to my decisions.”
The third T20 is scheduled for Tuesday in Guwahati.
