Wayfair CEO Niraj Shah conveyed a special message to his employees in response to the company’s positive financial outcomes. Shah not only encourages hard work and ambition among Wayfair personnel but also advocates for an increased focus on work and its integration with personal life.
According to CNN, Shah expressed in an email to employees, “Achieving success demands dedicated effort. I believe that as ambitious individuals, most of us derive satisfaction from witnessing our endeavors translate into tangible outcomes. Working extended hours, being responsive, and intertwining work with life are not aspects to shy away from. There is little history of success being bestowed upon laziness.”
In an email obtained by Business Insider, he addressed a claim that he discouraged late work, stating, “I would suggest that this is laughably false. Hard work is essential for success, and a key part of getting things done. Everyone deserves to have a great personal life – everyone manages that in their own way – ambitious people find ways to blend and balance the two. I think that is what we all should do.”
Shah also urged Wayfair employees to treat company funds judiciously and engage in negotiations to secure favorable prices. “Would you spend money on that, would you spend that much money for that thing, does that price seem reasonable, and lastly – have you negotiated the price? Everything is negotiable, and so if you haven’t then you should start there,” emphasized the Wayfair CEO in the email, as reported by Business Insider.
Following cost-cutting measures, including layoffs, Wayfair returned to profitability after facing losses, particularly in the wake of the pandemic’s furniture surge. The company reported a loss of $163 million in the third quarter, down from $283 million in Q3 2022, according to its latest quarterly reports released on November 1, as per Business Insider.
