The experienced G Sathiyan followed suit by blanking Yew En Koen Pang 11-6, 11-8, 12-10, giving India a 2-0 lead in the quarterfinal clash.
Harmeet Desai, India’s highest-ranked player at 61, sealed the deal with an impressive performance, outplaying Zhe Yu Clarence Chew 11-9, 11-4, 11-6.
Seeded third, India is set to face either Iran or Chinese Taipei in the semifinals. The men’s team had previously won bronze in the previous edition held in Doha two years ago.
Sharath and Sathiyan, who were previously ranked in the top-100 singles rankings, are now aiming to improve their standings in the individual events. Their rankings have seen a steep decline due to the revised points system and limited participation in tournaments.
On the other hand, in the women’s quarterfinals, the fifth-seeded Indian team faced a disappointing 0-3 defeat at the hands of Japan.
World number eight Mima Ito secured a victory against Ayhika Mukherjee in the opening singles, with a score of 11-7, 15-13, 11-8.
Manika Batra, ranked 36th in the world, managed to win a game against the seventh-ranked Hina Hayata but eventually went down with a score of 7-11, 9-11, 11-9, 3-11.
Suthirtha Mukherjee started well by winning the opening game against the 14th-ranked Miu Hirano but eventually succumbed to a 7-11, 11-4, 11-6, 11-5 defeat.
India will now participate in classification matches for positions 5-8 on Tuesday.
The continental event is taking place as a precursor to the Hangzhou Asian Games, which are set to commence on September 23rd.
