When questioned about the potential for sequels or the creation of a cinematic universe around his upcoming film, “Kalki 2898 AD,” director Nag Ashwin refrained from providing direct insights during his participation in IIT Bombay’s Tech Fest ’23. While discussions about the film’s future and potential sequels have surfaced, Ashwin clarified that there are currently no plans to expand it into a cinematic universe. He emphasized that, at present, “Kalki” is treated as a standalone project, with the focus solely on its development without exploring broader horizons. Addressing comparisons to iconic franchises like Star Wars, Nag Ashwin expressed his desire for “Kalki” to be recognized as “India’s Kalki,” emphasizing that he aims to create a unique identity rather than replicating existing narratives. Regarding the film’s technical aspects, particularly the visual effects, Ashwin assured that the team is dedicated to achieving maximum quality. He acknowledged the challenges of producing a VFX-heavy movie in India but expressed optimism about the improving landscape. “Kalki 2898 AD” features Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan in pivotal roles, produced by C Aswani Dutt of Vyjayanthi Movies, with music composed by Santhosh Narayanan.
