The DigiYatra facility has garnered positive feedback from users, streamlining the entry and check-in procedures at airports. It is set to be implemented at 25 additional airports in 2024, according to Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia. Currently operational at 13 airports for domestic passengers, DigiYatra employs Facial Recognition Technology (FRT) for contactless and seamless passenger movement at various checkpoints.
Minister Scindia announced the phased expansion of DigiYatra, with introduction at 14 airports in the first phase and an additional 11 airports in the second phase next year. By the end of 2024, the facility will be available at 25 more airports, bringing the total to 38 airports.
The existing DigiYatra service covers 13 airports, handling approximately 85% of the country’s domestic air passenger traffic. With the upcoming expansion, the service will be accessible at a total of 38 airports, catering to around 95% of the traffic. Passenger data shared for DigiYatra is securely stored in an encrypted format.
To avail the service, passengers need to register their details on the DigiYatra app through Aadhaar-based validation and a self-image capture. Subsequently, the boarding pass is scanned, and the credentials are shared with the airport.
At the airport e-gate, passengers scan the bar-coded boarding pass, and the facial recognition system validates their identity and travel document. Once verified, the passenger can enter the airport through the e-gate, following the standard security clearance and boarding procedures.
