On Saturday, a drone attack occurred on a commercial ship with 21 Indian crew members, approximately 217 nautical miles off the coast of Porbandar. Following the incident, the Indian Navy and the Indian Coast Guard deployed several vessels to assist the ship.
The ship reached the Mumbai shore around half-past three in the afternoon. Indian Coast Guard ship ICGS Vikram provided security upon its arrival in Mumbai. A spokesperson for the Navy stated, “After the ship’s arrival, the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team of the Indian Navy inspected it for the type and nature of the drone attack. The inspection of the area of the attack and the residue on the ship suggests it was a drone attack.”
He added, “However, forensic and technical analysis will be necessary to determine the type of attack and the quantity of explosive used.”
After the explosive ordnance disposal team of the Navy completes the inspection of the ship, various agencies will commence a joint investigation.
The spokesperson mentioned that in response to the increasing attacks on commercial ships in the Arabian Sea, three directed missile destroyer ships have been deployed in the region.
