Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced compensation of 15 lakh rupees to the family of the deceased, Reena. The woman tragically lost her life when her saree got stuck in the metro gate. Besides this, DMRC has also decided to take responsibility for the education of both children of the deceased, forming a dedicated team for this purpose.
Following the incident where a woman passenger met with an accident at the metro gate and lost her life, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has declared compensation of 15 lakh rupees for the family of the deceased. Additionally, DMRC has taken the decision to sponsor the education of both children of the deceased, establishing a team of officials for this purpose.
In this matter, Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, Hardeep Singh Puri, has directed that the care and education of the children be ensured by the Delhi Metro management. The incident occurred at the Indralok Metro Station on the Red Line on December 14, and the woman passed away in the hospital on December 16.
Anuj Dayal, Chief Public Relations Officer of Delhi Metro, stated that as per the provisions of the Claims Settlement Procedure of 2017, a compensation of five lakh rupees will be provided to the family of the deceased Reena. Additionally, an extra amount of 10 lakh rupees will be given to the deceased’s children as humanitarian aid. Since both children are currently minors, legal advice is being sought by the Metro to determine the rightful recipients of this amount.
To prevent such incidents in the future, a plan will be formulated after the investigation into how the incident occurred and why the metro gate did not open is completed. The conclusion of the investigation and the detailed plan to avoid such incidents will be communicated by the Metro Rail Safety Commissioner (CMRS). Presently, security guards have been deployed at crowded stations as a precautionary measure.
