Chhattisgarh Congress MP Ranjeet Ranjan raised concerns about the film “Animal,” starring Ranbir Kapoor, during a session in the Rajya Sabha.
The film “Animal,” directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, has sparked mixed reactions. While it has been a box office success, it has faced criticism for its portrayal of toxic masculinity. The controversy has now reached the Rajya Sabha, where Congress MP Ranjeet Ranjan expressed her grievances, stating that her daughter was deeply affected after watching the crime epic.
Ranjeet Ranjan emphasized the impact of cinema on society, calling it a mirror that reflects societal values. She pointed out that films like “Kabir Singh” and “Pushpa” had similar controversies, and now “Animal” is facing criticism. Ranjan shared her daughter’s experience, mentioning that she had to leave the film midway because she couldn’t stop crying.
The MP highlighted the film’s depiction of violence towards women, expressing concern about its potential influence on the youth. She drew parallels with “Kabir Singh,” emphasizing how the character’s actions were justified in the movie, leading people to consider him a role model. Ranjan stressed that the portrayal of such violence in films contributes to its prevalence in society.
Ranjeet Ranjan also criticized the use of the song “Arjan Vailly” in the film. She explained the historical significance of Arjan Singh Nalwa, the son of Hari Singh Nalwa, the commander-in-chief of the Sikh Force. The MP expressed concerns that the use of the historical song in a gang war setting could hurt religious sentiments.
“Animal,” featuring Ranbir Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, Anil Kapoor, and Bobby Deol, has achieved significant success at the box office, grossing nearly Rs 550 crore globally.
