Three current and former American officials have revealed that President Xi warned Biden during the recent summit in San Francisco. During the meeting, Xi cautioned Biden that China’s priority is to reunify Taiwan, not through force but through peaceful means.
China considers Taiwan its integral part and aims to reintegrate it with the mainland. Now, Chinese President Xi Jinping has issued a warning to his American counterpart, Joe Biden, on this matter. Xi has suggested discussing the reunification with Taiwan peacefully rather than using force.
Peaceful Resolution According to a foreign media report, three current and former American officials stated that Xi issued a warning to Biden during the recent summit in San Francisco. During the meeting, Xi told Biden that China’s priority is to take back Taiwan peacefully, not through military means.
Plan to Take Control in the Next Few Years Additionally, the Chinese president mentioned public statements made by American military leaders, stating that Xi plans to take control of Taiwan by 2025 or 2027.
Demand Placed Reportedly, Chinese officials also asked for a public statement from Biden after the meeting, expressing support for China’s goal of reunification with Taiwan through peaceful means and not endorsing Taiwan’s independence. However, the White House rejected China’s request, according to the report.
Concerns Over Chinese Behavior When asked about it, a spokesperson for the National Security Council refused to comment. However, Xi’s private warning aligns with his previous public statements. Still, American officials paid more attention this time, given the escalating aggression from China towards Taiwan.
Understanding Weakness in the Indian Ocean China has an extensive network of military satellites, but its presence in the Indian Ocean is limited. According to a Pentagon report in October, China has bases in Pakistan, Tanzania, and Sri Lanka in the Indian Ocean, but they are currently limited to commercial activities. President Xi’s recent warnings indicate China’s desire to expand its influence in the region.
Australia and the U.S. Presence Australia has been increasing its maritime surveillance in the region, deploying P-8 Poseidon aircraft, and the U.S. and Britain maintain a continuous watch in the western Pacific. The U.S.’s fifth fleet is stationed in Bahrain, and its headquarters are in Japan. Diego Garcia Island, administered by Britain, is used for strategic purposes, including long-range bomber aircraft and the potential deployment of a U.S. aircraft carrier. Australia, too, has been enhancing its surveillance capabilities in the region.
