Canada has issued an updated travel advisory for its citizens in India, urging them to exercise caution and remain vigilant due to recent developments. These developments include calls for protests and negative sentiment towards Canada on social media. The Canadian government has advised its citizens to stay alert and exercise caution in this context.
Meanwhile, the Firozpur Police have conducted raids on the properties of associates of Lakhbir Singh, also known as Landa, a Khalistani extremist who is under the scrutiny of the National Investigation Agency (NIA). Reports suggest that raids have been carried out at 48 locations throughout the district, resulting in several detentions.
The NIA has also released two lists containing the names and photographs of 54 individuals wanted in connection with the investigation of two cases registered last year aimed at dismantling terror-gangster networks in the country. These lists, one comprising 11 persons and the other 43 persons, were shared by the NIA on its official account on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Furthermore, the Indian government is reportedly in the process of revoking the registration of more than a dozen Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) cardholders for their involvement in pro-Khalistan activities and anti-India propaganda. This move follows India’s suspension of visa services in its Canadian missions and the directive for Canada to reduce its diplomatic staff in India.
Tensions between the two countries escalated after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made allegations of a “potential” involvement of Indian agents in the killing of Khalistani extremist Hardeep Singh Nijjar on Canadian soil on June 18 in British Columbia. The Indian government dismissed these allegations as “absurd” and “motivated,” leading to the expulsion of a senior Canadian diplomat in response to Ottawa’s expulsion of an Indian official over the case.
