After a day-long Enforcement Directorate (ED) raid at the residence of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Amanatullah Khan, Arvind Kejriwal, the party’s chief, declared that the raid is part of Prime Minister Modi’s scheme to discredit AAP and challenged PM Modi to provide evidence of any alleged involvement of AAP leaders in any wrongdoing.
Kejriwal asserted, “The raid on Amanatullah yesterday is a part of Modi ji’s plan to end AAP. Kejriwal has committed a bus scam, road scam, and electricity scam, I am challenging Modi ji to show proof. All these investigations that are going on are fake and their purpose is not to end corruption. Their aim is only to harass the opposition,” according to ANI.
In the meantime, on Wednesday, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) revealed that search operations were conducted at 13 locations in Delhi related to AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan and his associates under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) on Tuesday.
In an official statement, the ED stated, “The searches were conducted in the case related to the illegal recruitment of staff in Delhi Wakf Board and illegal personal gains by way of unfairly leasing out of Wakf Board Properties during the Chairmanship of the Delhi Wakf Board by Amanatullah Khan during 2018-2022.”
“The probe revealed that Amanatullah Khan has acquired significant proceeds of crime from these illegal activities in cash, which were then invested in the purchase of various real estate properties in Delhi under the names of his associates.”
ED emphasized that several incriminating records and evidence seized indicate his involvement in money laundering.
In response, AAP leader Amanatullah Khan noted that the ED did not uncover any wrongdoing. He told ANI, “The ED’s raid lasted for 12 hours… Today I met with the CM (Arvind Kejriwal)… I told him they searched everything, but they found nothing. Previously, a search was conducted by the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB), and they came up empty-handed.”
