The Rustam festival conducted by the Indian Army near the Line of Control (LoC) effectively taps into the tourism potential of border regions while providing a platform for local artists to showcase their talents.
In a collaborative effort involving Akashvani Srinagar, Rustam Battalion, and under the aegis of Pir Panjal Brigade of Dagger Division with local support, a pioneering cultural festival named Jashn-E-Rustam was organized near the Line of Control (LoC).
As per an official statement from the Army, this ‘extraordinary’ event was orchestrated to express gratitude for the unwavering support of the local community. It also stood as a testament to the theme of “Jawan Aur Awam” or “Soldier and Civilians” coming together.
This occasion marks a noteworthy milestone in the Army’s endeavor to strengthen bonds between military and civilian communities. It aims to harness the untapped tourism potential of border regions, simultaneously providing local artists with a platform to showcase their talents.
“The Rustam festival is a pioneering effort in itself, being the first time such an event has been held near the LoC. It saw an impressive attendance of 15,000, including both local and non-local audiences,” stated the official release.
This Rustam festival took place at a site that was previously used as an Army firing range and had been subject to cross-border shelling.
Local sources have highlighted that this event became possible due to the mutual agreement of ceasefire between the Indian and Pakistani armies along the LoC.
The festival featured captivating performances by prominent artists like Tariq Pardesi, Masarat Naaz, Yemerzal Cultural Group, Kohinoor Band Baramulla, Raja Bilal, Shahi Mumtaz, Team 360 (Uri), Safri Farooq, versatile band Aijaz Bhat, AGS Boniyar, and various school participants.
Mateena Rajput, a Bollywood actor of Kashmiri origin, graced the event with her presence.
The event, organized in conjunction with All India Radio (AIR), Srinagar unit, carried a theme of ‘Say No to Drugs.’ It aimed to create awareness among the local population about the perils of narcotics usage.
The local populace has commended the Army’s initiative in organizing this event and expressed enthusiasm for similar festivals in the future. The Army extended its gratitude to all attendees and supporters who contributed to making this cultural festival a memorable experience.
