Apple has rolled out the iOS 17.1 Beta 3, coming just a week after the release of iOS 17.1 Beta 2. This update is accessible to members of Apple’s Developer program who qualify for beta updates, while other users will need to await the stable version, expected to be globally released by month’s end.
Notably, Beta 3 brings a significant enhancement to the Action Button, designed to prevent unintentional activations when the device is stowed in a pocket or bag. Additionally, the Wallet app has received an important fix.
In the iOS 17.1 Beta 3 update, a new feature has been introduced to address user concerns. This update will prevent certain functions from being unintentionally triggered when an iPhone is placed in a pocket or bag. Specifically, the Camera, Flashlight, Voice Memo, Focus, and Magnifier functions will no longer activate through the Action Button when the iPhone is in a closed or inaccessible state. This adjustment aims to prevent accidental battery drain resulting from unintended button presses.
According to HT Tech, the Action Button had previously triggered functions like Camera, Flashlight, Voice Memo, Focus, and Magnifier even with the need for a long press. However, with the iOS 17.1 Beta 3 update, these specific functions will no longer activate when the iPhone is in a pocket or bag.
It’s important to note that other functions like mute and shortcuts can still be activated inside the pocket. Moreover, while this update prevents actions initiated from the Action Button, it doesn’t affect the individual activation of these functions when intentionally desired.
Additionally, the integrated Wallet app has received an update. In prior iOS 17.1 Beta 1 and Beta 2 versions, some users faced issues with the Wallet app crashing, causing disruptions at crucial times. Fortunately, this problem has been addressed in the latest update.
Apple has also introduced a feature that limits the modem’s power allowance for iPhone 12 models in France, aligning with France’s SAR (Specific Absorption Rate) testing regulations. This change specifically impacts iPhone 12 models in France due to the country’s unique regulatory standards. Users in France may experience a minor decrease in reception quality when their iPhone 12 is idle, but no other significant differences are expected.
