Trinamool Congress (TMC) national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee expressed his solidarity with party MP Mahua Moitra ahead of the Ethics Committee meeting of Lok Sabha, where the cash-for-query allegation against Moitra is under consideration. Banerjee questioned the recommendation for expulsion while the matter is still under investigation, emphasizing Moitra’s competence to handle the situation independently. Banerjee, who was at the Enforcement Directorate’s office for questioning in connection with a bribe-for-job case in West Bengal, highlighted instances of objectionable remarks made by BJP MPs without facing consequences. The Ethics Committee is set to meet to adopt a draft report on Moitra’s case, but Banerjee criticized the practice of summoning individuals on various cases without substantive findings. The BJP countered, stating that the allegations against Moitra are serious, and she is accountable to the public.
